Orange County Independence Day Weekend Sobriety Checkpoint Arrests Down

July 6, 2010-According to reports the number of drivers arrested over the holiday weekend is down from the same period in 2009. According to Irvine, Cypress and Buena Park police departments there were approximately 22 arrests during the holiday weekend at several DUI checkpoints set up.

Buena Park Police Department had a checkpoint in the vicinity of Beach Boulevard and Tenth Street, Friday through Saturday from 7:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m. Saturday. They setup a checkpoint at Beach Boulevard and McFadden Avenue from 8:00 p.m. Saturday until Sunday at 2:00 a.m. The amount of stops and arrests has not been available.

Cypress official’s checkpoint was in the vicinity of Lincoln Avenue and Moody Street between 7:00 p.m. Saturday and 3:00 a.m. Sunday. Their numbers show as 2 drivers that were arrested for driving under the influence, 42 drivers screened for DUI violations or licenses, with 8 people given sobriety tests.

There were 3 people attested on drug or warrant charges, and 11 drivers arrested for either not having a drivers license or a suspended license and there were 17 citations given out.

Irvine Police officials stated they stopped 331 vehicles, gave five sobriety tests and made one arrest, they also issued 37 citations between 7:00 p.m. Saturday and 3:00 a.m. Sunday in the vicinity of Culver Drive and Alton Parkway.
