November 22, 2011-) According to reports Griffin O’Neal, oldest son of actor Ryan O’Neal, could face prison time after a DWI car crash.
According to San Diego Deputy District Attorney Vanessa DuVall, Griffin O’Neal age 47 could face a maximum prison sentence of four years for possession for driving under the influence of drugs.
O’Neal was involved in a head-on collision on San Pasqual Valley Road, when he veered into oncoming traffic. January 12th, Griffin goes back in front of Superior Court Judge Eugenia Eyherabide for sentencing. O’Neal faces up to four years in prison, but could be sentenced to probation instead of prison time.
According to Deputy District Attorney DuVall stated that charges of possession of rock cocaine and drug paraphernalia were dismissed, due to O’Neal making a plea bargain. DuVall also said that O’Neal admitted to shooting his ex-girlfriend’s car and was convicted in 1992.
O’Neal was on probation when the accident occurred August 2nd at approximately 1:00 p.m. in the vicinity of Safari Park in San Diego, from a 2007 DUI conviction. The driver of the other vehicle and O’Neal were both transported to the hospital with injuries.
Toxicology tests showed O’Neal had marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines and Xanax in his system at the time of the August crash. According to the Deputy District Attorney, O’Neal had a loaded firearm and shotgun in the vehicle, along with ammunition for both, at the time of the crash.
Heather Boxeth, the attorney representing O’Neal told the judge at his arraignment that O’Neal was on his way to aid his half brother at the time of the crash. She also stated that he has a wife and four year old son and resides in North County.
