January 27, 2012 - According to reports a driver suspected of driving under the influence lost control of an SUV and struck a power pole. According to Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Ron Chamberlin the accident was reported at approximately 11:08 p.m. at the intersection of Victoria Street and Pacific Avenue.
Sgt. Chamberlin said the driver of a Ford SUV lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a pole, knocking out power to several homes and businesses. He said there were no other vehicles involved in the crash. The driver of the SUV was injured braking multiple bones and was transported to an area hospital. The name of the driver has not been released, Sgt. Chamberlin said.
According to a Southern California Edison spokeswoman, crews are working to restore power to the homes and businesses that were affected. The Southern California Edison spokeswoman said that there was a total of 1,573 customers that lost power due to the crash and power was expected to be restored by 5:00 p.m. The customers that were affected were south of Wilson Street, north of Victoria, east of Via Straits Lane and west of Placentia Avenue.
